Components of a CCTV camera surveillance system

It is a common sight to come across a CCTV camera installed at residential buildings and shopping outlets. What has changed in people over the last couple of years is the sense to protect themselves and their belongings before it is too late. Another reason for the growing culture of home security camera systems is the availability of the right technology that can make people feels safe and secure. There is no doubt that this technology has improved the life quality of people and made them feel safe about their surroundings. However, many people are not aware of the different components of a complete CCTV camera surveillance system. It is exciting to know about different parts of such a helpful set of technological equipment.

Different components of a CCTV surveillance system

Camera

The most elementary part of any CCTV system is the cameras. Interestingly not all cameras are similar. CCTV camera is available regarding size, resolution, power type, lens type, power supply etc. Different cameras are available to meet the sophisticated security surveillance needs most appropriately. There are different types of CCTV camera available in the market.

DVR

The digital video recorder (DVR) is the heart of a CCTV surveillance system. A DVR allows the recording of digital images and videos and stores them in a hard disk. A DVR also enable the facility to playback and from the hard disk storage. The DVR vary in each other concerning the number of cameras that can be installed using them such as 4, 8 or 16. 

Monitor

The image produced by CCTV cameras is needed to monitor at a central place. The work is executed with the help of a CCTV monitor. The monitor is similar to a TV monitor but with different usage. This monitor is connected to the DVR by data cables. A CCTV monitor is used to control the camera positions and their monitoring properties. This work can be done by installation of related software in the system storage.

Data cables

Cables are used to transfer data between camera to DVR and between DVR to other external devices. Cables vary in terms of usage and data transfer rate. Systems with more sophisticated features need cables of advanced technology for the smooth running of operations. There are many types of cables such as siamese cable, coaxial cable, twisted-pair cable, optical fibre cable etc. 

CCTV power supplies

A CCTV power supply allows power to the CCTV camera. These supplies are essential to run the CCTV camera.  Supplies are available in 12VDC or 24VAC power types with different voltage support. One should make sure to have a correct survey about the power requirements of their home security camera before buying a power cable. Power supplies are available according to different camera configurations to suit the system requirements.
